How to establish paternity in New York?

There are several ways an alleged father can establish paternity in New York State.

  1. The alleged father can sign the voluntary acknowledgment of paternity at the hospital
  2. Or, Two file a petition with family court.

These options are available only for unmarried fathers. Married men are automatically deemed the legal father of the child whether the child is biologically related to the husband or not.
